Professors are legendary for their effect on students, the future leaders of society. Moreover, their role in forming and informing the culture cannot be overstated. Academicians speak regularly to current events on the news, while shaping the thinking and discourse of policymakers, businesspeople, other educators and everyday people throughout most cultures.

Professors have changed the world. Their lives echo through history: from Albert Einstein to Ayatollah Khomeini, Martin Luther to Sigmund Freud, Karl Marx to Timothy Leary, from Pope John Paul II to the radical jihadist professor who inflamed Osama bin Laden at a Palestinian university.

The high calling of a Christian in academia is to uniquely represent the greatest Teacher the world has known while engaging in the best possible scholarship, teaching and service. Indeed, the very concept of "university" sprung from Christianity—the core purpose of the great universities of Europe and the American colonies was to understand Creation and Creation's God.

In the university Environment

"I think God has placed us where we are not only to earn our daily bread, but to be champions for the Truth."

—Professor of Education, U. of Northern Colorado

In the lives of students

"My office has become a safe haven for students."

—English Professor, Ohio State University

"One of my greatest concerns is the active hostility by some faculty against Christian students."

—Mechanical Engineering Professor, Purdue U.

"A former student told me, 'I became a Christian six months ago, and it all started with what you said in class about your personal faith in Christ.' Christian Leadership Ministries has helped me to express my faith to students more clearly and confidently."

—Engineering Professor , University of Minnesota

In teaching and research

"This age of science has given us more to be confident about in our faith than ever before. Christian scientists are leading the way in many areas of research. Faculty Commons has given scientists like me the means to apply their faith in their teaching and research."

—Dr. Henry "Fritz" Schaefer, III, Professor of Quantum Chemistry, multiple Nobel nominee, University of Georgia
