Background

Faculty Commons has an exciting history of global ministry involvement. In 1984 we sent our first team of professors to South Africa. In just a few days that small group of people had spoken to over 1,200 people in 20 meetings. Since 1984, FC has sponsored more than 100 trips to 35 different countries

In the years that followed more and more teams of professors began traveling overseas on FC-sponsored trips. It quickly became apparent that, because of their academic expertise, these men and women could at times enter campus settings that were often closed to traditional student ministries. As professors shared about their relationship with Jesus Christ—and how others could have that same relationship—both students and faculty members began to respond to the gospel.

As FC continued to send professors internationally, and as God continued to work in various countries, nationals began their own faculty ministries using FC's resources. Today we find trained and committed Christian professors in countries as diverse as Poland, Taiwan, England, Ghana, and Mexico.

Our Part, Your Part

As a university professor or college instructor, you can have a part in FC's continuing international emphasis. Whether you travel as part of your professional commitments or as part of a FC-sponsored speaking team with members of our staff, we provide you the:

The strategy is simple. In most cases you'll deliver a professional lecture based on your academic discipline within the context of a traditional classroom situation. In many settings, you'll be able to include your personal testimony. In other cases, you'll invite the audience to come to a special evening meeting in which you'll share about your personal life, including how you came to have a personal relationship with God. Local campus ministry people will be available to follow up interested students and faculty after you return home.

Depending on your availability, you can make repeated trips to the same country and universities on a regular basis. Each trip gives you the opportunity to build relationships and disciple key professors whom God is raising up to begin and lead local faculty ministries.
