Dr. John Walkup is an Emeritus Horn Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas Tech University, where he directed the research of the Optical Systems Laboratory from 1971-1998. During those years John and his wife Pat co-founded a student chapter of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and were involved in establishing Tech’s Christian Faculty and Staff Association. John retired early so that he and Pat could join the full-time staff of FC as Faculty Representatives. John and Rae Mellichamp serve as co-directors of FC’s Christian Faculty Leadership Network.
In 1999, John and Pat moved from west Texas back to the San Francisco Bay Area, where they were born, met, and married. They now work with university professors at a number of Bay Area campuses. John also travels nationally and internationally to assist Christian professors in being more effective in their calling as Christ’s ambassadors to their campuses. John’s essay “From Religion to Relationship” has appeared in the InterVarsity Press book Professors Who Believe.
The Walkups live in Danville , California near Berkeley , where John and Pat enjoy being near their three adult daughters, two of whom live nearby with their families. In their free time they enjoy reading, walking, gardening and nurturing their growing crop of grandchildren
